Do You Have Misconceptions About Acne Scars? Check Out These Myths …
There are several misconceptions associated with the problem of acne scars, especially about their causes and development. Considering the very fact that it is a very common problem and it can target just anybody regardless of how old or young he/she is, it is very important for you to educate yourself on the various aspects associated with the same. You must know how to differentiate myths from reality. Following is a brief rundown on some of the most common myths and the fact behind that.
Acne Is A Contagious Disease
One of the most common misconceptions is that acne is a contagious disease and that if you get in touch with those who are suffering from such problems, you will also catch the same. This is not true at all. Acne scars do not spread by touching, shaking hands, or even kissing. The three main factors that may cause the problem include an overabundance of acne-causing bacteria, excess oil, and the retention of skin cells within the pore. You cannot catch any of these components from someone else.
Having Sex Or Masturbation May Be A Cause
Surprisingly, some people believe that masturbation or having sex may also be a cause of such skin problems. Such misconception has no logical ground at all. Probably, the reason why this kind of fable gained that much popularity is that parents use this as a threat to dissuade their young kids, especially teenagers, from getting into the habit of masturbation or having sexual relationships. The really however is that making love or masturbating does not result in acne scars. There is just no connection between them.
Dirt When Trapped In The Pores Result In Blackheads
It has also been commonly noticed that people often believe that the black top of the blackhead is actually dirt, which it is not. In reality, it is a worm-like plug within the pore that is formed because of the accumulation of sebum with dead skin cells. The changes in oil impaction may also be a reason behind it. Just like a sliced apple turns brown when exposed to air for some time, the oil implication also turns black or dark brown in color.
French Fries, Pizza, And Chocolate Can Also Be A Cause
Another misconception about acne scars is that certain diet choices, such as French fries, pizza, and chocolate may also cause acne scars. But, in reality, no proven link has been found between the two. Junk foods may not be healthy, but they don’t cause acne as well. Such scars are mainly caused by bacteria, not diet.
Some people also consider lack of hygiene as a major cause for such problems. Not cleansing your skin though is obviously not a good thing, but it does not become the cause of acne scars for you.
